Lead Institution: National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement
Collaborating with:

Project Outputs > Plug & Play Sessions

The Effective Evaluation of STEM Outreach project commissioned the development of 3 pieces of one-hour training exploring specific aspects of evaluation (Measuring Quality in Engagement; Logic Models & Theories of Change; Creative Ways to Evaluate), that can be inserted into existing events / workshops.

Powerpoints of each training session can be downloaded below, giving you a flavour of what is delivered in each session. For further information on the training, and to be put in contact with the authors, please email the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement at nccpe.enquiries@uwe.ac.uk

The Plug & Play Sessions

(1) Measuring Quality in Engagement

This course provides an opportunity for participants to explore quality assessment in public engagement. Focussing on two case studies, participants explore what quality engagement looks like, and how to use evaluation to develop effective practice.

Measuring Quality in Engagement

Measuring Quality in Engagement

Through the course, participants:

  • Develop understanding of evaluating the quality of their public engagement activities
  • Develop skills in assessing the quality of public engagement

(2) Logic Models & Theories of Change

This masterclass looks at how people can make sure they are evaluating the right things when running an engagement activity. Every activity is linked to a desired change and the underlying theory of change will have a series of assumptions that lead from the activity to the change. The session helps participants to understand how to identify their theory of change and how to ensure that the evaluation explores the effectiveness of this.

Logic Models & Theories of Change

Logic Models & Theories of Change

Through the course, participants:

  • Develop understanding about what Theories of Change are
  • Explore how theories of change relate to the evaluation of an intervention
  • Investigate the Theory of Change that their intervention is based upon and how to design an appropriate evaluation strategy

(3) Creative Ways to Evaluate

This course aims to inspire delegates to develop their confidence in evaluative practice. Participants have the opportunity to:

Creative Ways to Evaluate

Creative Ways to Evaluate

  • Reflect on their own evaluation work
  • Explore several evaluation methodologies that could be adopted as part of an evaluation plan
  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of different evaluation methodologies
  • Develop confidence in utilising creative methods to evaluate activity
