Lead Institution: University of Bath
This is a sub-project of Strengthening, extending and embedding employer engagement
The programme has successfully engaged with industry and has secured presenters for the new academic year. The programme will become credit-weighted, to ensure student attendance. The programme will continue to develop through the exploration of Moodle/Mahara integration, which will provide an assessed e-portfolio for each individual student. For each development session, students will be required to provide an overview of their learning, assess their skills level, and plan for their future development. This will form the assessment requirements for the programme. There is potential for the development of an assessment rubric framework that could be used for each development session. Through attendance to each session, and completing the assessment requirements, students will pass and gain the associated credit for the programme.
During summer 2012, students will carry out an employability skills audit. Through student-led investigations, the key employability skills will be identified within the taught degree programmes across STEM disciplines. The findings will be delivered as part of the first year Employability Skills Programme and can then be used to help students provide evidence based examples for their key competencies and also to help plan their personal development. The findings will be distributed to STEM Directors of Teaching/Studies and Placements Support staff. This project would follow on from the work carried out by Dr Barrie Cooper, “Student-led Employability Audit Toolkit”, Workpackage 3 and Workpackage 6.
Students will continue to be signposted to other opportunities available within the University to further develop their skills.
