Through adoption of the Enhancing STEM Academics' Public Engagement Skills project, Middlesex University took the training and support provided to plan the design and development of two new outreach activities around the theme of communicating Engineering and Technology:
In addition, Middlesex took learning from the project with regards student volunteers and public engagement training to improve offers in these fields.
The adoption activities at Middlesex were led by Anna Wieclaw (Academic Assistant; A.Wieclaw@mdx.ac.uk). Find out more in the case study below.
Middlesex outreach
Middlesex is in the process of designing a project that will encourage young pupils to take a look at engineering and technology not simply from the user perspective but from the inventor / designer point-of-view. They will concentrate on the interaction between hardware and software by developing games / activities using new technology and high tech equipment typically not available in schools.
The intention is to recruit, train and guide student ambassadors to deliver new workshops to local schools so that sessions can be student-led. They will do this via the University Volunteer scheme.
Please find below a case study of Middlesex's engagement in the project. Should you like to know more, feel free to contact Anna at A.Wieclaw@mdx.ac.uk.
