Project Conference - September 2011 > Conference Presentations

Eight HE practitioners - ranging from STEM subject specialists to writing and learning developers - presented 12 sessions at the Conference, 11 of which are available here. Most sessions lasted about 10 minutes. The keynote presentation is about 35 minutes long. All but one of the 11 presentations are streamed as slides accompanied by audio commentary. With thanks to Nitin Parmar at the University of Bath for editing and compiling the extracts.

Presentation by Dr Barrie Cooper, Assistant Director of Education for Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Exeter, on the theme of engaging with students and staff. 'CPD portfolios for first year mathematicians'

Presentation by Lawrence Cleary (co-author Dr Íde O'Sullivan), Writing Consultant at the University of Limerick, Ireland, on the theme of engaging with students and staff. 'Following a developmental model of student engagement in the design of a Peer-tutor in Writing training module: an appeal to the student experience'

Presentation by Dr Nicola King, Associate Director of Education and Senior Tutor for Biosciences at the University of Exeter, on the theme of engaging with students and staff. 'Students as agents of change in Biosciences - an essay-writing guide, written by students for students'

Presentation by Dr Clare Wilkinson (co-authors Dr Margarida Sardo and Dr Karen Bultitude), Senior Lecturer in Science Communication at the University of the West of England (UWE), on the theme of what employers say they want. 'Findings of a Science Communication Unit's survey of employers' views concerning the communication skills of graduate employees'
