The Marchmont Observatory
The Marchmont Observatory at the University of Exeter led this project whose full title was Progressing from labour market intelligence to HE level provision that is well-supported by employers. The project focused on engineering and involved four universities and two colleges in the South West.
The sub-project teams at the universities of Bath, Exeter, Plymouth and the West of England, plus the colleges of Petroc and Weymouth reviewed the nature and impact of their institutions’ existing employer engagement processes and developed new approaches.

Lessons learned during the development of their projects were shared between all partners and case studies and toolkits for employer engagement were shared with the wider HE and FE community through regional events and the SW Spoke website.
The video and audio material on the Creative STEM website for this project includes reflections by the project team members on the process of employer engagement and workforce development. Guests to one of the project meetings (representatives from Cogent Sector Skills Council, the Engineering Employers' Federation and TDK Lamda UK) also gave their perspectives on this topic.
You are welcome to download the material for your own purposes, perhaps to stimulate discussions in your own institution about most effective approaches to employer engagement. A possible approach to using the material can be found here.
