Plans for 2012 - 2013

The South West CoP will form new partnerships with the Bristol Somali Resource Centre (BSRC), the British Science Association, Bristol City Council and the Institute of Mathematics & its Applications to:

1. Raise awareness and appreciation of STEM disciplines and of higher education opportunities amongst the Bristol Somali community

2. Up-skill adult members of the Somali community in delivery of Maths support and outreach activities to Key Stage 2 pupils

CoP members will work together on the planning and delivery of a STEM fair in a local Somali community during National Science & Engineering Week 2013 and will be encouraged to reflect on this process and on lessons learnt.

In addition, local schools will be engaged to identify Somali adults wishing to be trained in the delivery of extracurricular Maths support and outreach activities to local Somali children, in order to enhance these children's abilities and achievements in the subject.
