Subject: Pan-STEM
The Royal Society of Chemistry worked with Bristol ChemLabS and the University of Sheffield to explore ways of making better use of HE laboratories for the benefit of students. These projects provided school students with a taste of what it is like to study chemistry at university and allowed them to take part in practical experiments that would often be impossible in many classrooms.
Two different approaches to widening schools’ access to university laboratories were trialled:
Lab spaces can be utilised for a variety of activities including: practicals; competitions; summer schools; lectures and talks. The spaces can also be used to deliver practical experience of aspects of the curriculum which would not be possible in a school environment.
