As part of the London Engineering Project, London South Bank University staged a Solar Car Challenge competition which engaged local schools and was supported by HEI student ambassadors.
The challenge can be run as a 12 week project for school teams (usually 5 pupils in a team). During the LEP it was run during the Spring and Summer terms each academic year. Each school team is provided with a construction kit that is sourced through LSBU using project funding. LSBU also provided top-up training for student ambassadors acting as mentors for the event. Ambassadors would visit teams weekly or fortnightly to guide them.
The challenge culminates with a competition final, hosted at the HEI, which involves pupils and their parents.
Pupils in years 8 & 9.
