Curriculum & Support > School Talks, Lectures and Conferences

Description

Subject: Pan-STEM

Visits to schools and colleges to deliver talks, lectures and conferences to students are a very common means of outreach. Such activity presents the opportunity to:

  • Inspire students in science through the delivery of engaging demonstrations
  • Discuss career opportunities that arise through the study of STEM
  • Hold Q&A sessions on what it is like to study STEM at University

Talks / lectures can be delivered several times a day to different classes or delivered to larger groups of students over lunchtime. It is also possible to host afternoon schools' conferences for several hundred students at a time. This is something that the University of Bristol's ChemLabS department has had experience and success in.

Talks, lectures and conferences provide an opportunity to engage either undergraduate or postgraduate students in facilitating delivery, either through support provided to experiments, case studies of what it's like to study at university or designing and delivering their own lecturettes.

Target Audience

Children aged 8 - 19.
