The Open University's supported open learning model of course delivery makes a significant contribution to widening participation. The institution has an open access policy which means that students do not need A-Levels to study with the OU.
Additionally, the University operates a financial assistance scheme which assesses a learner's income independent of parental income. Students earning less than c. £16,000 can receive a full award so that they can study for free. Partial awards up to c.£33,000 income p.a are available.
The University makes effective provision for students with disabilities. Between 7 and 8% of OU students have declared a disability. Because of its blended learning model, the OU can provide study to people who are geographically isolated, for example in rural and coastal areas of the south west. This mode of study is also very convenient for people who are in work. approximately 70% of OU students work full-time.
The Open University facilitates credit transfer, so that students can use previous HE study towards a qualification.
All students and adult returners.
