Subject: Engineering
This activity involves an HEI engaging with 30 – 50 local school pupils to host a 1-day event that both celebrates Islamic culture and focuses on the contribution made by the Muslim world to engineering and science.
The activity was initially developed by London South Bank University as part of the London Engineering Project and has proved an especially good event for involving pupils and their parents. Although developed with Muslim girls in mind as the target audience, Engineering Islam has been run successfully with participants from other backgrounds.
Pupils take part in a carousel of al least 3 activities that have been inspired by the book 1001 Inventions: Muslim Heritage in our World. Student ambassadors are required to support the event and it is preferable that a mix of gender and ethnic origin is represented.
The LEP has developed a materials list plus instruction / guidance sheets for pupils and ambassadors.
Years 7 – 11.
