  • 7 March: London
  • 8 March: Cardiff

Ever wondered whether the HE STEM outreach activities you are doing have any value? Want to improve your practice but don't know where to start? Fed up of feedback questionnaires but want to develop an evaluation plan that works for you? Look no further.

The National HE STEM programme have funded the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) and Beacons for Public Engagement to bring you two exciting new courses:

(1) Getting started - a beginner's guide to evaluation

This one day course will encourage you to think about why evaluation is important, and what it can tell you. The day will cover important topics including:

  • Why evaluate your STEM activity?
  • How do you get started?
  • How to engage your audiences in evaluation
  • Creative ways to evaluate
  • Where can you get help and support for your evaluation?

This highly interactive course, with exercises and discussion, will enable you to develop a draft evaluation strategy for your activity, and find out how to put it into practice.

Participants in the course will be provided with a course handbook, and the opportunity to participate in an online forum to share their experiences of developing an evaluation plan, and to ask questions.

The course will be run on the following dates and locations:

  • 29th February: Birmingham
  • 7 March: London (9.30am to 4pm, Society for Research into HE)
  • 8 March: Cardiff (10am to 4.30pm, School of Maths, Cardiff University)

The courses are open to anyone working in outreach, although priority will be given to those working in HE STEM outreach activities. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note places at the course are free but cancellation charges apply. Full joining instructions will be provided.

  • Audiences for evaluation
  • How to make use of evaluation to evidence impact
  • The dos and don'ts of reporting
  • How evaluation can help you ensure that the work you do is effective in making a difference

Participants in the course will be provided with the opportunity to participate in an online forum to share their experiences of developing an evaluation plan, and to ask questions.

The course will be run on the following dates and locations:

  • 3 April: Manchester (12.30pm to 4pm, Room E0.05, John Dalton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University)
